Man made 30 calls to his former partner in space of 24 hours

-

A woman was repeatedly stalked by her former partner, who bombarded her with unwanted phone calls and turned up near her workplace.

David Melville approached his victim’s workmates trying to find out about her private life after they had separated.

Melville, 32, of Arthur Court, Cowdenbeath, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that between October 31 and December 4 at Western Honda, Halbeath, he engaged in a course of conduct which caused his former partner fear or alarm by constantly calling her mobile phone and going to her workplace and asking for information about her personal life. The campaign of harassment went on, despite the woman telling him to stop.

Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Melville £600 and imposed a 12-month non-harassment order.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf told the court about an incident on October 31 when the woman left work at 5.05pm.

As she was walking to her vehicle she became aware of a silver car coming towards her. Melville was inside it and asked to speak to her.

She told him she did not want to talk to him. However, a male colleague of the woman was walking past and Melville made a comment to him about her sexual activity.

He then called her an abusive name.

Melville followed this up by making 30 calls to her over the next 24 hours.

Another colleague of the woman was approached by Melville after he left work and was asked questions which made him suspicious.

Defence solicitor Ralph McCran said: “He now accepts their relationship is over.”
