Police appeal after sexual assault

A woman has been sexually assaulted as she walked along a footpath in West Lothian.

The incident, near Eliburn North roundabout in Livingston, happened at around 4.45am yesterday. Police say a 24-year-old woman was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.

The man is described as white, in his midtwentie­s, of medium build, around 5ft 10in, with dark brown hair and stubble. He wore a dark blue or black jumper and dark jeans.

Detective Sergeant David Macmillan of Livingston CID said: “A thorough investigat­ion into this incident is currently under way and we continue to support the woman at this very distressin­g time.

“I’d urge anyone who was in the area around 4.45am, anyone who recognises this man’s descriptio­n or who has informatio­n which may be relevant to contact us immediatel­y.”

Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.
