Dundee winner has just two months left to claim £1 million lottery prize

- Richard rooney

A would-be Dundee millionaire now has just two months left to claim his or her prize – or the life-changing sum will slip away.

A ticket bought in Dundee on November 14 2017 won £1 million on the EuroMillions draw but the prize remains unclaimed.

The deadline to claim the money is midnight on May 13, and the National Lottery is urging anyone who thinks they might be the winner to act before it is too late.

A Lottery spokesman said: “There are two months left for the winner of this prize to come forward and claim their life-changing win so, whilst there is still time, we’d urge everyone to check everywhere a missing ticket could be hiding.

“Check in pockets of clothing, down the back of the sofa, in your wallet, in the glove box of your car, on the sideboard... in fact anywhere where a ticket might be hiding.

“If you are someone who hasn’t yet got round to checking a stack of lottery tickets, take a couple of minutes out of your day to do so, as a five-minute check could be worth £1m.”

While hopes of a successful claim might be fading, the National Lottery says there are plenty of examples of winners leaving it late before claiming their prizes.

The spokesman added: “It’s fairly rare for a prize to go all the way to the 180-day deadline ... (but) there have been examples where prizes have been claimed late on or at the very last minute.”

In one of the most extreme examples, in 2016, a player in Barking and Dagenham picked up a £4.6m Lotto jackpot by making a claim with just days to go.

The spokesman said: “The draw was on September 12 2015 and the prize was claimed on March 7 2016 ... it was due to expire just three days later, on March 10.”

If the prize is not claimed, the £1m and all the interest it has earned since the draw date will go to the National Lottery Good Causes fund.
