Ayr County Show offers day of spectacle
A YR County Show is one of the largest
one-day Agricultural Horse shows in the West of Scotland attracting visitors from near and far. This year being a special one for them with it being their 175th Annual Show in their 181st Year of promoting Agriculture and Rural life. Over the years like many agricultural shows they have seen many changes and pressures to move with the times.
Ayr County Show is a very important event in the calendar year and one of the most important aspects is the opportunity for country and town to come together bringing much business to the surrounding area and the economy.
They are a one-day event, the date being Saturday 12th May 2018. The venue being The Racecourse, Craigie Road ‘Gate A’, Ayr.
The event includes exhibition & competition of many types of animals of a wide variety of breeds being judged throughout the day. The Light Horse & Pony classes start at 8.00am, British Show Jumping classes at 8.45am & Clydesdale Horse classes at 10.00am with a Clydesdale Stud Cart class taking place in the Main Ring at approx. 1.00pm which is a spectacle to behold. The Cattle, Sheep & Poultry classes start at 9.30am. The pinnacle of the afternoon is when the individual Champion animals from each section meet in the main ring for the Champion of Champions to be judged and the winner be presented with the £1000 Prize sponsored by Rotherwood Furniture. This, along with the Grand Parade of Livestock, are sights to behold.
They host Trade Stands, Food & Crafts, Vintage Tractor Display, Sticks & Crooks, WRI Competitions, Young Farmers Competitions, Family Entertainment, Music, Royal Highland Educational Trust Kids Marquee and Truck Ayr Lorry Show. The main ring Spectacular this year being James Dylan’s Stuntworld, the most experienced motorcycle Stunt Team in Great Britain.
Ayrshire Agricultural Association is very much committed to keeping this event going forward with a good range of attractions throughout the show field whilst not losing the true agricultural roots of the Show making Ayr County Show a great day out for the whole family.
