Police probe rural thefts

-

Police in Fife are investigating an elaborate theft of a caravan from rural premises near Cardenden.

A twin-axled Hobby 546 VIP caravan was stolen some time between Sunday March 11 and Thursday night, although officers admitted the crime would have taken some planning.

The large caravan was secured by two substantial motorbike chains, one on each axle, effectively locking both sets of wheels.

As a further security measure, a large metal tank was placed in front of the caravan making access to it very difficult.

However, marks on the ground indicate that the tank was moved to one side and the caravan was then dragged out of the shed where it was stored.

Once outside both chains were cut and the van was towed away.

A spokespersons said: “This was a well-organised theft as a large vehicle must have been used to firstly move the tank and secondly to tow a very heavy caravan whilst the wheels were locked up.

“It is not known how the chains were cut but it is thought that a grinder or a Stihl saw could have been used.”

Meanwhile, in a second incident, a black Volkswagen Golf with an 02 plate was stolen from a farm near Cupar at 1pm on March 11. The keys had been stored in an insecure caravan.
