Bollan fully focused on matters on the pitch

Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan is trying to focus on football matters after reports emerged that the club is to meet Scottish Government officials to help prevent the Blue Brazil from folding.

The Central Park boss is preparing his side to face Elgin City this afternoon and has enough on his plate turning around their on-pitch fortunes, without concerning himself with offpitch troubles.

He said: “My job is to manage the football side of things and that is all I am doing.

“There is enough going on in the here and now to concern myself with so that is what I will concentrate on.”

A positive display and a point from a visit to Edinburgh City in midweek has lifted spirits and, despite a 15-point deficit needing to be bridged to avoid the pyramid play-offs for a second year running, Bollan is determined that Cowdenbeath’s season will turn in a positive direction.

He said: “We were creative in midweek and had more attempts on goal than in previous games. We were a goal down but came back to draw 1-1 and it is all about building on that positively now.

“We know that we could have won that game and confidence has picked up as a result.

“The players were saying that we deserved to win and it has been a while since they said that. Edinburgh City had been enjoying a good run of wins and have had a pretty settled side so we have to be pleased with a draw and being disappointed with not winning.”

Bollan added: “We need to build on that as Elgin are in good form so this will be another tough test. We lost 1-0 up at their place after playing for almost the entire second half with only 10 men.

“There was not much between us in that game and we have improved since then so we can be upbeat about this game.”

Joe McGovern and Ryan Connelly are out, with defender David Syme having left the club this week to join junior outfit Troon.
