Businessman’s ski slope plan

-

A Fife businessman is behind plans for Scotland’s first revolving ski slope.

Jack Gemmell had planned the slope in a vacant retail unit at Kingsway, Dundee.

He then received what he described as a “better offer” of premises at the city’s Manhattan Works but that has fallen through and the 27-year-old civil engineer from Glenrothes is seeking an alternative.

Jack said: “We originally had an agreement to open up alongside Ryze trampoline park at its new location in Dundee, but there was not enough space at Soccerworld for both facilities.

“We then looked at Kingsway East Leisure Park, but unfortunately, our crowdfunding attempt was unsuccessful and the start-up and rental costs involved were too much.

“We had hoped to open up alongside the Dundee Ducks indoor roller hockey team at the Manhattan Works, but again a lack of space meant this option could not go forward.

“We are now appealing to the public and existing sports clubs to come forward with possible suitable venues.”

The premises needs a minimum 6.5m clear floor-to-eaves height, a concrete floor or similar load bearing, access to a three-phase electricity supply, suitable level access for installation and a minimum 200 sq/m of free floor space.

Existing outline leisure consent is preferable to avoid planning issues and Jack hopes to set up beside an existing sports facility.
