Police seek news about man in water

Investigat­ors want to rule man seen at East Sands out of inquiries

Police searching for missing 19-year-old St Andrews student Duncan Sim are appealing for informatio­n about the sighting of a man in the water in St Andrews.

Officers are working to establish the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the sighting at around 3am on March 15.

The man, described as around 6ft and with dark hair, was reported to have been seen standing in the water near Kinkell Braes.

Officers are eager to trace the person, and anyone who may have seen him, as they work to establish if this sighting may be connected to the ongoing investigat­ion to trace Mr Sim, pictured, who was last seen outside Madras Rugby Club at around 11.15pm on March 14.

Chief Inspector Steven Hamilton, local area commander for north-east Fife, said: “We’re working to establish if the sighting may be connected to Duncan’s disappeara­nce and are asking for the public’s help as part of this.

“Our inquiries to date do not support Duncan having travelled to the East Sands area – however, we are committed to pursuing all possible lines of inquiry in order to trace him.”

He continued: “Anyone with informatio­n relevant to our inquiry is urged to get in contact immediatel­y.”

Those with informatio­n about Duncan’s disappeara­nce can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2987 of March 15.

Anyone who may have informatio­n about the sighting in East Sands is also asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
