100 years ago

Dundee and Monifieth parish Councils conferred over the proposal by Dundee to include Broughty Ferry within its area. Prior to the meeting of reps of both councils, which was held in private, Mr D. Johnstion, chairman of Monifieth Council, made a statement in defence of the attitude of that body. He said it seemed to him that the questions at issue between the councils could be adjusted if both boards were agreeable. The Parish Council of Monifieth was not to blame.

The latest member of Glenrothes Little Theatre has no lines to learn, and she cannot really be described as a good actress. She is a large white broody hen. The hen is on loan to the theatre from Pitteuchar Farm, Markinch, for the play which they have entered for this year’s Scottish Community Drama Associatio­n one-act play festival. The play The Red Velvet Goat by Josephine Niggli, has been described as a slice taken from the day-to-day life of a Mexican village and presented upon the stage.

A record number of 902 runners, with a strong representa­tion from Fife and Tayside took part in the Alloa Half Marathon, but missing from the field was Scotland and Dundee United forward Duncan Ferguson. The footballer had hoped to run in aid of the Scottish Society for Autistic Children to raise funds for their £250,000 educationa­l play and sports building in Alloa. But because of a groin strain Duncan, whose family comes from St Ninians, Stirling, was unable to run.

Patients in Fife are undergoing unnecessar­y, multiple medical procedures because of an NHS computer system glitch. NHS Tayside and NHS Fife use different recording systems so, often, clinicians cannot access the results of blood, urine and tissue tests taken in north-east Fife for patients attending Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Scottish Labour health spokespers­on Anas Sarwar MSP said: “Patients shouldn’t be going through the stress of having them done more than once.”
