Drunken sailor fined for rampage
Whisky binge led to invasion of family gathering
A drunken sailor gatecrashed a family gathering after a Fife wedding, then groped the bride and spat into drinks, before urinating in front of guests as he was being kicked out of the venue.
Glen O’Connor, a leading hand in the Royal Navy, had gone to the Caledonia Hotel in Rosyth to watch a football match while his ship was docked nearby. Whisky was sampled from the top shelf and O’Connor remembered little after that. He also faces disciplinary action from the Navy. Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard O’Connor tried to kiss the bride’s hand while she was chatting to her new mother-in-law, then felt her bottom.
Fining O’Connor, 32, £700, Sheriff Chris Shead told him: “This would have caused a great deal of unnecessary distress to people there including the woman whose wedding it was.”

Gate-crasher Glen O’Connor, a leading hand in the Royal Navy, tried to kiss the bride’s hand then felt her bottom.
He was confrontational with wedding guests, spat in their drinks and was put out of the hotel when he tried to urinate against a door in the venue.
When he was finally ejected, he relieved himself in the hotel car park as witnesses looked on.
O’Connor is based at HMS Caledonia in Rosyth and had gone to watch a televised football match at a nearby hotel.
He began working his way through the whiskies on the bar’s top shelf before creating havoc with guests who had attended a wedding the previous day.
O’Connor, 32, HMS Caledonia, Hilton Road, Rosyth, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on August 12, at the Caledonia Hotel, Hilton Road, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, acted in an aggressive manner, attempted to kiss the bride on the hand, placed his hand on her body, repeatedly spat into the drinks of the hotel patrons, attempted to urinate on doors there and then urinated in the hotel car park.
Depute fiscal Claire Kennedy said the bride had been at the hotel with her extended family to celebrate her wedding the day before.
“Attention was drawn to the accused who was heavily intoxicated and behaving in a confrontational manner,” she said.
O’Connor interrupted a conversation the bride was having with her mother-inlaw and tried to kiss her on the hand.
“He then put his hand on her back and moved his hand down on to her bottom,” added Ms Kennedy.
“She moved away out of his reach. She didn’t believe there was anything sexual about it, rather that it was the actions of a drunk man.
“The accused then began lifting other people’s drinks and was spitting into the glasses before placing them back down.”
Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said O’Connor had been accompanied to court by a warrant officer and would be facing disciplinary measures within the navy.
Sheriff Chris Shead described O’Connor’s behaviour as “pretty disgusting” and fined him £700.
