Long tailbacks after accident

-

Two people had a lucky escape after their car overturned on the M90.

The pair escaped with only minor bumps.

The accident brought southbound traffic to a standstill as emergency crews rushed to the scene at around 1pm on Saturday.

The car ended up on its roof on the central reservation of the busy motorway at a stretch between Kelty and Halbeath.

Motorists heading south were stopped as police, ambulance and fire crews rushed to the scene.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it sent two crews, from Dunfermline and Lochgelly, but no one was trapped in the car.

Firefighters made the car safe and hosed down the carriageway as there had been a spillage of diesel.

Police confirmed two people had been involved in the accident but neither of them had any serious injuries, apart from “minor bumps”.

However, the incident did cause severe delays on what was a busy Easter Saturday.

Long tailbacks soon formed way past the Kelty junction and motorists reported waiting in queues for 40 minutes or more while the emergency crews tackled the incident.

In total the road was closed for around an hour, with one lane opening at 1.45pm while debris was cleared from the second lane.

It also reopened shortly afterwards.
