Tulleth nets twice as Tayport keep up bid

-

Tayport know they cannot afford any slip-ups if they are to maintain their challenge for promotion and manager Charlie King will be pleased with the three points from a tricky trip to Dalkeith Thistle.

Alan Tulleth put the Fife side in front on 28 minutes before Dale Robertson made it 2-0 just before the hour.

Jamie Gill, on loan from Forfar Athletic, scored the third with 10 minutes remaining before Stewart Adams pulled a goal back seven minutes later.

Tulleth made sure of victory with his second and Tayport’s fourth in stoppage time.

Kirriemuir Thistle’s survival hopes took a blow after they were on the end of a thrashing from champions-elect Musselburgh Athletic.

The leaders were 3-0 in front at the break through Stephen McDonald, Sean Murphy and Gary Cherrie.

After the break McDonald went on to complete his hattrick with goals on 69 and 70 minutes, the latter from the spot, and then made it 6-0 with his fourth on 78 minutes.

Matty Lynch scored a seventh with five minutes left to complete the rout.

St Andrews United announced that manager Craig Morrison had left the club by mutual consent after a second heavy defeat in two games as they went down 5-0 at home to Tranent.

Ben Miller scored a first half hat-trick for the visitors with Kane Patterson and Ryan McCallum adding goals in the second half.

With only five games remaining Saints could be left with an anxious wait to see if they avoid relegation.

A club statement, confirming Morrison’s departure, said: “We are grateful for the energy and commitment he brought to the club and we wish him well for the future.”

Thornton Hibs made sure there was no repeat of Whitburn’s demolition of St Andrews as Craig Gilbert’s side won 4-1 away from home.

A Garry Thomson brace after 27 and 33 minutes put Hibs 2-0 in front at the break. Jack Ogilvie pulled a goal back for Whitburn on 73 minutes but Thomson completed his hattrick on 78 minutes.

Whitburn had Martin Russell sent off on 81 minutes and Thomson brought the curtain down on his one-man show with his fourth in stoppage time.

The weather put paid to two games in the Premier League with the games between Arniston and Downfield and Glenrothes and Fauldhouse United postponed.
