Violet take over at top

-

With North End’s game against Lochee Harp postponed, Violet knew that victory at Coupar Angus would see them go top of the league.

Craig Batchelor scored in each half, the first direct from a corner, to put John Dunn’s side in control.

Coupar pulled a goal back late on from a penalty but Violet comfortably held on.

Arbroath Vics’ season has been something of a rollercoaster and at the moment they seem to be on a downward run after losing 4-1 at Blairgowrie.

The Blair goals came from Gordon Norrie, Rudi Brown, Matty Adam and a Darren Neave penalty.

Brechin Vics went down 4-1 at home to East Craigie, although the home side were far from impressed by the referee.

Craigie took the lead in the first minute from the spot through Nik Mann after a Vics defender was adjudged to have pulled down the scorer.

The second was also controversial as Vics deliberately put the ball out of play.

The throw-in was sent back to the keeper but Mann nipped in to poke the ball past him and into the net. Mann went on to complete his hattrick with Jon Rosscraig getting a fourth before half-time.

Steve Eaton pulled a goal back for the hosts after the break, but the damage had already been done in the first half.

The clash between Forfar Albion and Kinnoull looked to be heading for a draw until two stoppage-time goals from Noull’s Mark Smith saw Alan Cameron’s side take all three points.

Albion took the lead through an own goal on the half-hour and the hosts led at the break. However, Kinnoull were in front within eight minutes of the restart through a Greg Whyte spot-kick on 48 minutes and a Ben Ragen strike. Adam Fraser appeared to have earned a point for Forfar on 63 minutes until Smith popped up to seal the win.

A rare strike from Darren Kelly was the highlight of a 4-0 win for Luncarty at home to Lochore Welfare.

Kieran Donald put the Perth side ahead and Sean Fergus made it 2-0 after half-time. Kelly’s sweet strike on 65 minutes made it 3-0 before Fergus added a fourth.

The game between Newburgh and Scone Thistle was called off.
