How little Hayley Davidson’s death finally led her mother’s boyfriend to the High Court dock

February 14 2016 – Baby Hayley Davidson is found badly injured at Gordon McKay’s home on West High Street, Buckhaven, at around 12.30pm.

February 17 2016 – Hayley sadly passes away as a result of her injuries at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

February 20 2016 – Gordon McKay, boyfriend of Hayley’s mum Catherine, is charged with murdering the five-month-old.

February 22 2016 – The former soldier appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court. He made no plea or declaratio­n and was remanded in custody.

March 12 2016 – Despite being granted bail by a sheriff, McKay was kept behind bars after the Crown Office appealed over the ruling to set him free. He was later bailed.

March 16 2017 – McKay appeared at the High Court in Glasgow where he entered not guilty pleas to murdering Hayley and another charge of possessing cannabis.

August 11 2017 – A judge at the High Court in Glasgow sets a trial date for February 2018 as McKay continued to deny the allegation­s.

January 16 2018 – McKay appeared for a preliminar­y hearing at the High Court in Glasgow. It was revealed for the first time that he was accused of shaking Hayley, inflicting trauma and violence on her head and body. The charge also stated that he did “bend and compress” the baby’s body and did bite her.

April 3 2018 – Former soldier McKay pleads guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide at the High Court in Livingston.

He admits shaking little Hayley, causing catastroph­ic injuries to her brain. His not guilty plea to a drugs charge is accepted by the Crown.

McKay will be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on May 10 and has been told that a lengthy prison sentence is “inevitable”.
