Funding boost for village school

-

The playground at Leuchars Primary School is to be given a makeover.

Thanks to head teacher Lucy Jess and staff, who applied for funding, the school has been awarded £16,900 from the Ministry of Defence’s Covenant Fund.

The total will contribute to additional seating and plants, as well as new playground equipment at the school in Pitlethie Road.

North East Fife MSP Willie Rennie said: “This is very welcome news for the whole community.

“I’m sure the children will relish hours of play once this state-of-the-art playground has been built.

“As well as providing free activities and plenty of fun for the youngsters, the climbing equipment and goal posts will also encourage sport and physical activity.

“I congratulate the council staff who were responsible for securing the funding and look forward to seeing it come to fruition.

“This £16,900 will benefit so many local kids now and in the future.”

The Covenant Fund supports projects involving both military and civilian communities.

Under the scheme, projects can apply for small grants of up to £20,000.

Announced in 2013, the fund allocates £10 million a year to projects across the UK.

The fund also supports veterans of the armed forces who have healthcare needs.
