Three in hospital after crashes

-

Three men were taken to hospital yesterday following a series of early morning accidents on the M90 near Dunfermline.

The spate of crashes happened on both carriageways and involved a total of 12 vehicles.

Emergency services said no one was seriously injured.

The first collision happened on the northbound section at junction 2 Pitreavie at around 5.35am and involved a Honda Civic and an Astra van.

Both drivers were taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital as a precaution, although it is understood neither suffered any serious injuries.

Seven cars were then caught up in an accident on the southbound carriageway, again near junction 2 at around 6.30pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene and another driver was taken to Victoria Hospital, although again it is understood it was only as a precaution.

Ten minutes later, three cars were involved in a collision in the same area.

Police closed the carriageway southbound to remove debris and recover damaged vehicles.

None of the drivers in the third accident were understood to be hurt.

Motorists travelling in both directions were caught up in the resulting tailbacks. Police said the carriageway was cleared by 7.10am and an investigation into what might have caused the accidents is under way.
