McIntosh maintains family tradition

Scotland’s Seonaid McIntosh became the third member of her family to win a Commonweal­th Games shooting medal as she took bronze in the women’s 50m rifle prone event.

The Edinburgh 22-year-old scored 618.1, 2.9 behind gold medal winner Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore.

India’s Tejaswini Sawant took silver.

Older sister Jennifer, who won two golds in Delhi in 2010, was eighth.

Their mother Shirley won gold in the 50m rifle prone event at Victoria 1994.

It was a bowls silver for Scotland in the women’s triples. Kay Moran, Stacey McDougall and Caroline Brown lost their final against Australia 21-12.

Fife’s Lesley Doig and her partner Claire Johnston will play for the pairs bronze after being beaten by RSA in the semi-final 18–10.

Arbroath’s Darren Burnett stayed on course for a second gold of the games with a 21-13 singles win over Malaysia to take him into the last four.

Ronnie Duncan, Derek Oliver, Paul Foster and Alex Marshall beat England 19-10 in the semifinal and will now play Australia in the final. If they triumph it will mean Marshall becomes the first Scot to win five Commonweal­th Games gold medals.

In badminton Kirsty Gilmour is through to the singles quarterfin­als after a 2-0 victory over England.

Alex Dunn and Adam Hall are also through to the last eight in the men’s doubles.

The women’s netball team placed ninth after ending on a high with a 50-48 win over Barbados.

In squash there was disappoint­ment for Montrose’s Lisa Aitken and Kevin Moran in the mixed doubles. They lost 7-11 and 6-11 to England in an exciting round-of-16 match.

It is the end of Aitken’s games after being forecd to withdraw from the singles through injury and exiting the women’s doubles on Wednesday.

Alan Clyne and Greg Lobban have booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the men’s boubles with a 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago.

Kinross’s Patrick MacHugh and partner Kieran Merrilees, though, went out at the same stage after losing to Canada.
