Arrests after 48-year-old man injured in street

Two people have been arrested after an alleged attempted murder in Kirkcaldy.

A major police operation involving a helicopter and incident units was launched on Saturday afternoon in the Gallatown area after the alarm was raised.

Officers swooped on Miller Street, near Fife Ice Arena, after a 48-year-old man was allegedly attacked at around 4pm.

A police spokespers­on said: “Police in Fife arrested a 35-year-old man and a 35-yearold woman in connection with the attempted murder of a 48-year-old man in the Miller Street area of Kirkcaldy, which took place at around 4pm on Saturday.

“This incident resulted in a large police presence in the area.

“Inquiries are continuing and anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3009 of April 21.”

An alleged attempted murder in Kirkcaldy prompted a major police operation involving a helicopter and incident units.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened in the Gallatown area on Saturday afternoon.

Police swooped on Miller Street, near Fife Ice Arena, after an incident involving a 48-year-old man at around 4pm. Officers cordoned off an area of the street, and the car park of Rejects department store on St Clair Street was used as a base for police vehicles and ambulances.

Residents described hearing a helicopter circling overhead.

A police spokespers­on said: “Police in Fife arrested a 35-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman in connection with the attempted murder of a 48-year-old man in the Miller Street area of Kirkcaldy, which took place at around 4pm on Saturday April 21.

“This incident resulted in a large police presence in the area.

“Inquiries are continuing and anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3009 of April 21. Alternativ­ely, members of the public can contact Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y on 0800 555111.”

The condition of the 48-year-old man was not disclosed.

A property on Miller Street remained cordoned off yesterday and was being guarded by two police officers.

The property backs on to the car park of Fife Ice Arena.

A local source said the Rejects store was not affected by the incident and remained open while emergency services used the car park.

Last year a man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of father-of-two Darren Adie just a few streets away on Tweed Avenue.

Mr Adie was repeatedly stabbed on the body by Gordon Coventry, 52, on May 28 2016.

Last June a 25-year-old man was taken to Victoria Hospital in the town with serious but not life-threatenin­g injuries after an incident on St Clair Street.

A man was subsequent­ly arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
