Glenrothes enjoying life on the road again

-

Glenrothes recorded their second Premier League away win on the bounce, although the last was at St Andrews in November.

Lee Celentano put Glens in front on 14 minutes before Conor Schiavone made it two on 22 minutes. Arniston pulled a goal back on 83 minutes through Scott Wright but it was nothing more than a consolation.

Downfield got the job done early at Creamery Park against Bathgate Thistle with two goals in the first 10 minutes from Dale Davidson.

Bathgate pulled a goal back in stoppage time through a Stuart McLeod penalty but it was far too late to have any impact.

Kirriemuir Thistle are now three points adrift of Whitburn at the bottom of the league and have played two games more. Thistle went down 1-0 at Blackburn United courtesy of a Craig Young goal on 71 minutes.

The new St Andrews United management team of Andy and Gordon Brown got off to a good start with a 0-0 draw away from home at Dunbar United, although the defeat extends the run of games without a win to seven.

Thornton Hibs enjoyed a fine victory at Tranent. Chris Ireland put Hibs in front on eight minutes and Adam Drummond made it two on the half-hour.

Ian Smith pulled a goal back for Tranent within a minute of the second half starting but Andy Adam restored the two-goal lead on the hour.

Thornton were reduced to 10 men on 70 minutes when Ben Anthony was harshly sent off but it made little difference as Garry Thomson made it 4-1 with 10 minutes to go.

It is a much-used football cliché but you don’t win matches if you don’t keep a lead and nothing could be truer for Tayport.

Charlie King’s side went ahead at Whitburn after five minutes through Gary Sutherland but despite numerous chances to extend their lead, they could not add to that early goal.

And the sucker punch came on 89 minutes when the hosts equalised courtesy of a last touch from a Tayport boot.
