Council working to fix potholes

-

Fife Council is working through a backlog of pothole repairs and has fixed 6,000 since the beast from the east hit.

The local authority said it was completing on average 450 pothole repairs a week.

Councillor Altany Craik, convener of the economy, tourism, strategic planning and transportation committee, said: “Keeping Fife’s roads in an acceptable condition is no easy task, but thanks to our roads teams and three pothole busters we’re making good progress.

“We know that many more potholes still need our urgent attention and we’re endeavouring to get to them as soon as possible.

“As well as our own inspection system, many of the potholes we repair every year are reported to us by members of the public and I want to thank everyone who has done so.”

Members of the public can report potholes on Fife roads at fifedirect.org.uk/potholes or phone 03451 55 00 11.

The council said it aimed to respond to reports of potholes within five working days and carry out emergency road repairs within 24 hours.

In October last year an online insurer carried out a freedom of information request on potholes, revealing the number across Fife was 29,188, second only to Edinburgh.

Fife Liberal Democrats recently called for more investment in repairing the region’s roads.
