Tangerines see off Saints
The Tangerines, with a full compliment of five over-age players, edged out Saints at McDiarmid last night.
Saints’ John Robertson forced a good save from Josh Donaldson in 10 minutes and David McMillan volleyed wide after a poor kick out by the keeper.
However, six minutes from the interval, United took the lead against the run of play when Emil Lyng intercepted Stefan Scougall’s wayward freekick before slotting home.
United doubled their lead 12 minutes after the restart when Gav Ritchie played a one-two with Declan Glass and drilled the ball inside the near post.
Saints pulled one back midway through the half when Alistair McCann bulleted home a header from a corner.
Liam Gordon was inches away from heading the home side level and Logan Chalmers fired wide at the other end.
With three minutes left, Ritchie came to United’s rescue, clearing a Cameron Ballantyne effort off the line.
