Woman assaulted by sneak thief

A woman was left injured after a thief sneaked into a home in Kirkcaldy in the early hours of the morning.

The 44-year-old victim was assaulted and suffered minor injuries during the incident on Mitchell Street on Saturday.

The man made off towards Alexandra Street with a small sum of money and alcohol.

Police appealed for anyone, particular­ly taxi drivers, who may have been seen the culprit around the time of the incident at 2.40am to get in touch.

They also warned householde­rs to ensure their doors were kept locked.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham said: “The victim sustained minor injuries as a result but is very shaken by the incident.

“We are appealing for any witnesses including taxi drivers who were in the area at that time after a night out who may have seen anyone matching the descriptio­n to contact us.

“We would also like to remind people to ensure their front doors are locked and secure at all times.”

The thief was described as white, in his mid to late 20s, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in,slim and unshaven.

He had a local accent and was wearing a dark top with the hood up, stonewashe­d jeans and black boots. The top had white writing on one sleeve.

Anyone with informatio­n should call police on 101 quoting incident number 557 of April 28.
