‘world-class’ golf centre opens at Carnoustie

-

With two months to go before the return of The Open Championship, the new multi-million-pound golf centre at Carnoustie Golf Links has opened.

The building, named Links House, houses seven state-of-the-art golf simulators, a new pro shop and a contemporary bar and restaurant, the Rookery, that boasts views over the golf courses and sea.

A total of 26 jobs have been created through the £4.75 million project, which has divided opinion in the Angus town.

Carnoustie Golf Links chief executive Michael Wells said: “We are extremely proud to be able to provide a world-class facility that matches the outstanding golf offering here at Carnoustie.

“The new building offers first-class facilities where our local community and visitors from all over the world can enjoy refreshment and relaxation in the beautiful setting of Carnoustie, with spectacular vistas across the links and the sea.

“The opening of Links House ensures that we are now able to offer a five-star experience which rivals the world’s very best golfing venues.”

Many people in the town have voiced concerns at the impact the new centre will have on other bars and restaurants in Carnoustie but the R&A’s director of championship operations, Rhodri Price, said the centre is the “perfect” facility for golfers during The Open, which will run from July 19 to 22.
