Medieval Angus

-

The Abertay Historical Society’s 71st session concludes on May 9 with a lecture delivered by Professor Richard Oram on Medieval Angus.

Professor Oram’s talk will explore the development of what he views as “three main dimensions of medieval Angus – the earldom and its lands; the Church, spanning the diocese of Brechin and the main monastic centres, and the emergence of the parish system; the burghs, exploring the development of the main urban communities and their trade networks.”

Richard Oram is Professor of Environmental and Medieval History at the University of Stirling. One of Scotland’s best known historians, he is the author of a number of publications. AHS President Kenneth Baxter says “Richard Oram has delivered several very popular lectures to the society and we are delighted to welcome him once again.”

The lecture is free to AHS members. Non-members are welcome to attend, but are requested to consider making a small donation to the society. The lecture will take place in Lecture Theatre 2, the Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee. The lecture starts at 6.30pm. It will be proceeded by the AGM of the Society at 6pm.
