Edinburgh students retain title

-

Edinburgh University’s star continues to rise after another successful defence of their Premier League title.

The student outfit, masterminded by former Scotland star Sam Judge, endorsed its credentials as Scotland’s top club for the fourth consecutive year with a 3-1 victory away to Wildcats.

Sophie Maunder and Amy Brodie oiled the victory wheels before the break with Izzy Fowler adding a third before Emily Cross fired in a late consolation.

Elsewhere, in Glasgow Emma McGregor and Millie Steiger struck doubles with Heather Howie also on the mark against MJV Wanderers to keep Clydesdale Western’s hopes of an upset at Auchenhowie alive, while Wanderers claimed a single.

Grove Menzieshill bounced back from Saturday’s shock defeat at Hillhead to secure third place with a 4-0 win over GHK on Sunday, Katie Robertson and Lucy Smith sharing the goals.

Meanwhile Wildcats’ place in the European play-offs is under serious threat from Watsonians.

A late burst by the capital side puts them just three points short of fourth place, however Watsonians must be considered favourites to complete their campaign with a win over GHK and leapfrog the Cats on goal difference.

The second division crown and automatic promotion goes down to the wire.

Glasgow University and Inverleith are in the frame with one going up while the other faces a play-off scenario against either GHK, Hillhead or Grange.

Uddingston clinched the Championship 2 title in style with a 13-1 win over Kelburne IIs.

Kinross drew 3-3 away to Kilgraston, with Vicky Carver (2) and Sally Montford on the mark.

Carver was on target along with Claire Brownbridge in the 2-0 win over Grange II.

Brechin Thistles completed their Midland Division 1 campaign with a 3-2 win over St Andrews III. Ashleigh Leslie, Joni Hill and Dawn Ramsay secured the six points to parachute Brechin into third place.

Rachael Stewart (2), Kelly Smart and Rosie Morris were on target as Perthshire III won 4-0 against Monarchs.
