West End cast adrift at foot after losing to Carnoustie

-

Forfar West End slipped further behind Kennoway Star Hearts at the bottom of the Super League last night after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Carnoustie Panmure, who increased the gap between them and Jeanfield Swifts.

Carnoustie took an early lead when Jamie McCabe seized on poor defending and slammed the ball home from 12 yards.

Despite being the better side the home side couldn’t find a second goal and West End equalised on 42 minutes from their only real effort of the first half through Dale Robertson.

Carnoustie were again dominant after the break and deservedly went back in front through a thumping Ryan Roche header on 72 minute.

West End looked for another equaliser but on the rare occasion they breached the Carnoustie defence, Jamie Robbie was in fine form.

West End’s defeat was made worse by Kennoway Star Hearts winning 2-1 at home to Lochee United. Liam Rolland put Kennoway in front after 15 minutes and the Fifers extended their lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Lochee managed to pull a goal back through Greg Kirk but it was only a consolation as the home side took three valuable points.

In the Premier League, Kirrie Thistle and Downfield took a point apiece from their game at Westview.

Terry Connell put the Spiders in front but a Greig Fairweather strike levelled things up.

Kirrie went in front in the second half through John Farquharson but a Paul Blackwood equaliser earned the Dundee men a point.

Thornton and Glenrothes served up a goal fest in the Fife Derby at the Memorial Ground. Daniel McNab put Hibs in front on 18 minutes and Chris Ireland made it 2-0 10 minutes later.

Scott Napier pulled one back on the half-hour and Gavin Moffat equalised seven minutes later. Napier put Glens in front 10 minutes after half-time before a Sean Simpson double made it 5-2 with five minutes left.

There was still time for Max Coleman to pull a goal back for Hibs in stoppage time

In the North League Forfar Albion snatched a point against Brechin Vics thanks to an Owen Wilson goal in stoppage-time after Gordon Ramsey had put the visitors in front.

Luncarty won 2-1 away at Lochee Harp. Richard Doig and Martin Maher were the Luncarty scorers, while Brad Miller netted for Harp.
