Sheran says his boys are ready for crack at history

-

Cove Rangers boss John Sheran insists his side have already proved they can handle the pressure as they bid to make history against Cowdenbeath.

The team can become the first club from the Highland League ever promoted to the SPFL through the pyramid system if they see off the Fifers, with the first leg taking place in Inverurie this Saturday before the return at Central Park a week later.

Free-scoring Cove, who count 50-goal marksman Mitch Megginson among their number, teed up the tie with a comprehensive 5-2 aggregate win over Lowland League champions Spartans.

They have also registered a 3-2 win over League 1 side Airdrie and gave a respectable account of themselves in a 3-1 defeat against Falkirk during a memorable Scottish Cup run this season – ensuring Sheran has no inferiority complex.

Former Montrose manager Sheran said: “If I look at the big games we have played this season against League One teams, against Championship teams, then I see we have done really well and we can go into this with real confidence.

“Cowden will be well organised and refreshed, they have had the benefit of a rest.

“All the advantages are with them – it’s designed that way, to suit team 42 in the SPFL.

“We just have to beat the odds, turn in a good performance and see where that takes us.

“But if we get the same performance that we did in the last two games then I’m sure the boys will give them a bit of a fright.”
