Champions ready to soak up the sun on Spanish break

-

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie and his players will swap Lunan Bay for Benidorm this weekend as their title celebrations continue.

There may or may not be room in the suitcase for Petrie’s Ladbrokes League Two manager of the season trophy.

The same goes for the division’s player of the season version won by Sean Dillon.

Both men received their well-deserved awards at Discovery Point in Dundee yesterday, yet another proud occasion for the Gable Endies following a season to remember.

Now it’s time for the sun cream and shades as they head off to the Spanish resort for some fun.

Petrie said: “It has been an exciting time for all concerned at the club. We have all enjoyed it as these things don’t come around very often.

“It is only now starting to sink in what the club has achieved.

“You go back over the club’s 139-year history and they have only won two titles. Hopefully, it’s not too long until the next one. It is a great achievement for all concerned.

“Now 25 of us are heading off to Benidorm for a long weekend.

“It will be great and the players have certainly earned it. The boys are buzzing and I imagine they will all enjoy the break.

“I am looking forward to it but after we get back me and the coaching staff will start working again to prepare for next season.”

Petrie reckons former Dundee United captain Dillon has been his most important player as he prepares to make sure Montrose are ready for the step up next season.

He said: “Sean has been our biggest signing and that’s not demeaning to anyone else.

“He is such a nice guy but he gives us something special on the pitch in terms of organisation and helping those around him.”
