Tayport’s hopes dented by late leveller

-

Promotion-seeking Tayport were held to a 2-2 draw by Tranent at the Canniepairt after the visitors’ late leveller.

Ben Miller put the Lothian side ahead from a seventh minute penalty.

The lead was short-lived thanks to the vision of Alan Tulleth, who, spotting the keeper off his line, chipped in from just inside the opponents’ half.

Ryan Suttie headed Port in front from a free-kick after half-an-hour but Craig Meikle did likewise with six minutes left to deny Charlie King’s side victory.

Fauldhouse took another step closer towards promotion with a 2-1 win at Downfield.

A Terry Connel goal gave the Spiders a first-minute lead and, but for missed chances, the points would have been in the bag by the break. But the visitors hit back in a more even second half to snatch all three points.

Thornton Hibs became only the fifth club to avoid defeat at Musselburgh’s hands when they drew 2-2 with the champions-in-waiting at Memorial Park.

A great Garry Thomson finish gave the Fifers the lead after eight minutes.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Chris Gray was sent-off just before the break, but Stephen Macdonald equalised from close range on the hour.

Four games in eight days was a game too far for Glenrothes who went down to a 3-0 home defeat to East of Scotlandbound Blackburn United.

The Glens were down to the bare bones and had to draft in three trialists, one of whom was a goalkeeper.

Craig Young put the Lothian side ahead two minutes from the break with Danny Campbell adding the second four minutes after the restart. Callum McDowall got the third midway through the second half.

Missed chances cost St Andrews dearly at Arniston as the hosts came from behind to win 3-1.

Saints should have had more than Daryl Falconer’s 20th-minute opener to show at the interval after dominating the first half. And they paid the price for that when Rangers levelled early in the second half before two goals in the last five minutes sent Saints home emptyhanded.

Though still to be confirmed mathematically, Kirrie Thistle’s 4-2 home defeat to Haddington consigns them to a bottom four finish, though the ramifications of that have yet to be determined given the defections to the East of Scotland league.

Thistle did have the first and last word with Connor McLeod scoring the opener and Stuart Russell getting their second late on.

Between those goals, however, Frazer Paterson, Scott Moffat, George Cunningham and Andy Jones were on target for the Hi-Hi’s.
