The R&A Spring Meeting continued yesterday over the Old Course at St Andrews. The best net score in the spring medal yesterday was 68 by 11handicap­per Ralph Campbell (R&A). Patrick Hanrahan (3, Lindrick) and David Meacher (2, Highgate) returned the two lowest gross scores of the day, 76 – as they did on the same day of last year’s Spring Medal, but then it was two 75s. Belle Robertson, off 3, won the women’s scratch and handicap prizes with a net 84 from Diane Bailey (16) 85 and Margaret MacNaughta­n (14) 88. The Brazil Nut Cup nine-hole stableford competitio­n for members 70 years of age and over was played on the Strathtyru­m Course with 53 members taking part, including five past captains – John Uzielli, Sir Michael Bonallack, Hamish Ritchie, David Marsh and David Harrison. The competitio­n was won by Morrison Zuill with 24 stableford points. Morrison was also awarded the Methuselah Trophy for the leading score by a member 80 years of age and over. John Gray was runner-up with 23 points after count-back from Ian Fisken and Bruce Rollo.
