Cultybraggan film to go public
Strathearn residents will get the opportunity to watch the first public screening of a documentary made on the former prisoner of war (POW) camp at Cultybraggan.
Cultybraggan is a featurelength documentary about the camp and includes interviews with former POWs along with historians and those who lived in the nearby village of Comrie during the Second World War.
The film will be shown at Carry On Culty on Saturday and will be the first opportunity for the contributors to meet and see the film. This 45 minute presentation is only a short taster of the full feature-length version which will be completed by the producers by the end of the year.
It focuses on the relationships built up between POWs and the community of Comrie.
The close link and friendships that were formed during this time between residents and the POWs was shown in 2014, when Heinrich Steinmeyer, a former SS officer, left his estate and home worth £385,000 to the people of Comrie in thanks for the kindness they had shown him when he was a POW.
Cultybraggan will be shown at the camp, with screenings at 10.45am, 12.30pm and 3pm on Saturday, followed by a Q&A with the producers, BBC Drama director Ade Bean and actress Caroline Strong.
Carry On Culty is a fundraising event organised by the Comrie Development Trust.
