-

A man has been rushed to hospital following a crash involving a car and a mobility scooter on a Kinross road.

The incident took place on Station Road yesterday afternoon, with police forced to close the route for almost an hour.

The man driving the mobility scooter, described as elderly, suffered “serious injuries” in the collision and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

After the incident, a police spokesman said: “Police Scotland is currently in attendance at a road traffic collision in Station Road in Kinross involving a mobility scooter and a car.

“An elderly man who was driving the mobility scooter has suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment, and the road was closed for a short time to allow for collision investigation to be carried out.

“We would like to ask anyone who saw this incident to contact us on 101 or speak to any police officer. Our reference is incident 1034 of May 10.”

The road was reopened at about 2.15pm.

A local business owner said: “I was driving past at around 10.50am. I saw the ambulance was there already and there was a police car behind me.

“I didn’t get a good look at the person but I could see they were lying on the road and they were hurt.

“When I drove up in the other direction from Crook of Devon about 50 minutes later, the road was completely closed and the place was packed with police cars. We haven’t heard anything more about how badly they were hurt.”

One man who lives near the site of the accident with his young family but asked not to be named said: “I saw it this morning when I was walking down by the primary school. It looked pretty serious.

“The mobility scooter was by the side of the road and it was facing towards the school. It looked like he was crossing over just along from Emslie Drive when he was hit by the car.

“It’s really awful. I hope he’s OK.”
