The lowest gross score on the fourth day of the R&A Spring Medal was 70 returned by Kevin Cattanach (Scr, Bruntsfiel­d Links Golfing Society). Kevin therefore wins his third Silver Cross of St Andrew for the lowest scratch score in the Medal (previous wins in 2008 and at last year’s Spring Medal). Andrew Smith (Scr, Royal Ashdown Forest) won the Bombay Medal (Silver Medal) as the runner-up with a 72. This is Andrew’s first Spring or Autumn Medal prize. The best net score yesterday was 69 (74-5) returned by Swedish member Johan Frick (Falsterbo). However, Ian McKerrow (Bruntsfiel­d Links Golfing Society) wins the Kangaroo’s Paw for the lowest net score in the Medal, with his 64 (77-13) returned on Monday. The Silver Trophy (Captain Cook Bi-Centenary Trophy) for the best net score by a member 55 years of age or over is awarded to 55-year-old Graham Frazer (Royal Mid-Surrey) for his 67 (74-7) returned on Wednesday. The CSS yesterday was 75 (the highest of the week). Other prizes – The Silver Cross of St Andrew (lowest scratch score in the Spring Meda) – KJ Cattanach 70. The Bombay Medal (Silver Medal for the second lowest scratch score in the Spring Medal) - AH Smith72. The Princess Royal Medal (lowest scratch score in the women’s competitio­n of the Spring Medal) – B Robertson 87. The Kangaroo’s Paw (lowest net handicap score in the Spring Medal) – IAC McKerrow 64 (13). The Spring Meeting Women’s Handicap Medal (lowest net handicap score in the women’s competitio­n) – B Robertson 84 (3). The Silver Trophy (Captain Cook Bi-Centenary Trophy for the lowest net handicap score in the Spring Medal by a member 55 years of age or over) – GC Frazer 67 (7); The Brazil Nut Cup (9 hole (Strathtyru­m Course) stableford competitio­n for members 70 years of age or over) – AM Zuill 24 points.
