Democracy champions sought

-

Fife Council is urging locals to nominate their democracy champion for a national award.

Organised by the UK Government, the first ever National Democracy Awards will reward those who are trying to engage people in democracy.

They will form part of National Democracy Week from July 2 to 8.

Head of democratic services Linda Bissett said: “Fife Council is pleased to be supporting National Democracy Week and these awards.

“Regardless of who we are or where we are from, we must work to ensure that every member of society has an equal chance to participate in our democracy and have their say.

“These awards will recognise individuals and organisations across the UK who are working hard to engage people in our democracy.

“Their work, particularly with under-represented groups, has the potential to help people understand their democratic rights and make their voices heard.

“If you know any individuals or organisations in Fife that are working hard to engage local people in our democracy make sure you nominate them for a democracy award.”

The four award categories are Young Advocate of the Year, Diversity Champion of the Year, Changemaker of the Year and Collaboration of the Year.

The deadline for nominations is May 27. For more information visit https://democracyweek.campaign.gov.uk/
