All the ingredients of a traditional agricultural show combined with a generous helping of new events looks set to ensure that the 2018 Fife Show will be a great day out for all the family at Kinloss House, Cupar, on Saturday May 19.

As with any show, the heart of the event is the main ring where the showing of classes for cattle, sheep and heavy horses takes place from 8.30am and the day’s events culminate in the Young Farmers’ Tug O’ War.

Equestrian events are a mainstay of the Fife Show and never more than this year when Fife will be home to a HOYS qualifier for the first time. (Read more in our feature on P12 of this supplement.) There be action in six rings including showjumping, light horses and all breeds and types of horses and ponies.

Each year there is a greater focus on education and new for 2018 is a Showground Trail aimed at younger visitors. The trail is aimed at children around 12 and under and will take them on a tour of the showfields with questions on food, farming and agriculture to answer. Completed sheets can be exchanged for a Fife Explorer’s badge and entered into a prize draw.

Children can also find out all about rural life in the Kids Countryside Marquee with activities on offer from organisations including Fife Bat Group and Fife Beekeepers Association. There will be stories from Hame Spun Tales as well as a first visit to the show from the Dundee Science Centre. Look out for some fascinating rare breeds, along with alpacas from the local Claddach Farm herd.

Photography and pet competitions allow everyone to get in on the competitive action, while performances from Drakes of Hazard and demonstrations of everything from archery to swordsmanship will keep you entertained.

Show secretary Elaine Miller would like to extend her thanks to the dozens of sponsors involved in making the Fife Show happen and in particular to the main sponsors for this year: Galbraith, Kettle Produce, NFU Mutual Cupar, Agrii, Clydesdale Bank, Rollos and Lindores Abbey Distillery.
