Dear Sir – In his letter published on May 9, Mr Alfred Ruse expresses himself as strongly opposed to Sunday cinema exhibitions. Only two weeks ago Mr Ruse was negotiating with the proprietors of The Pavilion, Carnoustie, with the object of introducing to this town a lecturer who uses the film to illustrate observations of various battlefronts. “In this case, Mr Ruse strongly advocates Sunday as the most suitable day of the week for this purpose.” – John Taylor, manager, Pavilion, Carnoustie.

Looking slightly embarrassed, the Queen stepped forward to the microphone and said she would ask her husband to speak for her.

Drivers will have to contend with major diversions as Dundee city centre is shut down to cope with an influx of music fans for concerts at Slessor Gardens. Three outdoor concerts are being staged this summer, beginning with UB40 and followed by gigs by Little Mix in June and Olly Murs the following month. Roads around Slessor Gardens will be closed during the concerts, while traffic going east along Riverside Drive, towards the Tay Road Bridge, will be diverted for several miles.
