Europe beckons for Grove
All roads lead to the National Hockey Centre at Glasgow Green tomorrow where the final curtain calls will determine the highs and lows of the domestic season.
Although Edinburgh University have cemented their credentials as Scotland’s best with back-to-back National League and Scottish Cup triumphs they still have to battle through this weekend’s semi-final play-offs in order to go into next year’s European club championships as Scotland’s top team.
While the students play host to giant-killing capital neighbours Watsonians in stage one this afternoon Grove Menzieshill and arch foes Clydesdale Western will be lining up with similar ambitions of advancing to tomorrow’s Grand European Final.
Western just edged last month’s encounter to claim bragging rights in the league. A fullstrength Grove will be spurred on to compensate by knocking the Glasgow giants’ aspirations of repeating this success.
Meanwhile the promotion/ relegation battles will also come to a conclusion. Kelburne will be replaced by Division 2 champions Glasgow University, runners-up Inverleith will try their luck against GHK with Hillhead and Grange also having to justify premier status.
Midland competitions also cross the finish line at DISC with the League Cup and Plate Competitions.
Madras FP, Blairgowrie and Grove Menzieshill III came through their respective pools in top spot to compete for the Cup.
