Detectives investigating the discovery of a woman’s body on a rural Perthshire road have seized a “bashed up” car which was found in a nearby village.

Inquiries are under way after the grim find on the B8062 between Auchterarder and Dunning.

The dead woman has yet to be identified by police, but residents believe she might be a young mum.

Officers were seen removing a black car from Green Julian Place in Inchture, about 25 minutes’ drive from the scene of the apparent collision.

One neighbour said there was a police presence, including CID officers, around the vehicle for several hours.

The front garden of the semi-detached house where the car was found has been cordoned off, with a police officer stood guard outside.

“The car was loaded on to a recovery vehicle on Friday evening,” the neighbour said.

“I didn’t see what make it was, but it looked bashed up. There was definitely damage to the front.

“I don’t know if it had been dumped there. Some folk were saying it was abandoned.” A police spokeswoman confirmed that the vehicle was part of the investigation. “Inquiries are continuing,” she said. Motorists with dashcams who have recently driven along the B8062 route have been urged to contact investigators.

The road, which is popular with cyclists and walkers, remained closed throughout the weekend.

It was blocked from a junction near Islabank Caravan Storage to the turning at Aberuthven, close to Rossiebank Farm.

Detective Superintendent Jim Smith said on Friday: “It is vital that we establish the full circumstances which have led to this woman tragically losing her life.

“I would appeal to anyone who has travelled that stretch of road or the surrounding area and who has dashcam footage to get in touch with police.”

The woman’s death is still being treated as unexplained.

There has been online speculation about the woman’s identity, with some suggesting she may be from Auchterarder.
