Drive to tackle food poverty

-

Glenrothes Foodbank has teamed up with Asda in a move to tackle poverty and hunger.

The Asda store in Glenrothes will be taking donations for the foodbank until May 25 to help those in need.

Asda’s ‘food drive’ is part of the supermarket giant’s three-year Fight Hunger Create Change programme.

The programme will be working with foodbank charity the Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity Fare Share to tackle hunger.

The partnership means Glenrothes Foodbank, as part of the Trussell Trust’s network, will be able to access a range of additional support and resources including potential grant funding opportunities to boost its work, for example in offering additional services beyond emergency food.

The programme will also support the Trussell Trust’s research work, to gather more evidence about what drives foodbank use.

Glenrothes Foodbank manager Jilly Guild said: “No one in Glenrothes should need a foodbank’s help and we want to see an end to local people needing emergency food.

“Until that time, we’ll continue to provide vital support when it matters most.

“But, in order to do so, we rely on the community’s donations. We’d love to have your support during the food drive at Glenrothes Asda to ensure we’re stocked up on the food we need to provide help to people from across the community.”
