Wealth manager in city deal

- Graham huband

Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin has expanded its Dundee operation after acquiring the financial planning and investment assets of Clark Thomson MortgageFinders.

The deal came about after the Dundee Technology Park-based firm’s director David Hogg was seeking an exit to allow him to retire.

An agreement was reached with Brewin Dolphin’s Dundee office, which is headed by Ian MacDonald, to switch the financial planning assets of the business to the larger group.

However, Maureen Dye – a fellow director of Clark Thomson MortgageFinders – will continue to run the mortgage advice and non-investment life insurance policy side of the business on a stand alone basis.

Mr Hogg said: “I was very keen to make sure I found the best local outlet for my clients and had no hesitation in recommending Brewin Dolphin to them. They are a financially strong company with a local presence.

“I had also known Ian (MacDonald) for many years and was confident the Dundee team would take good care of my clients.”

Mr MacDonald said he was delighted to complete the tie-up.

“I have known David Hogg for over 25 years and have every confidence that he ran a quality business,” he said.

Our styles and philosophy are very similar, and I saw his clientele as being a good fit for us.”
