Visitors this season will have the opportunity to enjoy the latest exhibition featuring artefacts, paintings and models showcasing Streatlam Castle, which was one of the three historical properties owned by the Earls of Strathmore. On March 29 1959 the remains of Streatlam Castle vanished in a series of huge explosions. The home where John Bowes had been brought up, and where he had lived for much of his life, had effectively been obliterated by the Territorial Army upon invitation from the castle’s then owner. And yet not every trace had been erased. This exhibition will show how Streatlam looked in its heyday, bringing to life the style in which John Bowes, one of the richest men in England, lived. His were the classic passions of a Victorian gentleman, certainly, but one who was out of the ordinary in many ways, and this exhibition will tell that tale. We hope you are excited for the vast amount of events the Glamis Castle team have planned for 2018! On June 10th a truly Scottish day out returns to Glamis Castle – The Strathmore

Highland Games. There is plenty to watch: big, strong men tossing cabers and throwing hammers, light-footed highland dancers dancing, look out for pipers piping, runners running and cyclists cycling. Tug of War sees a team of men trying to pull a rope away from another team of men; consequently they’ll likely be sitting a while yet one team always wins! A new event for this year is Sword, Steel

and Smelting which will take place on June 16th. Enjoy a day of history and adventure as we celebrate three artisan disciplines: broad swordsmanship, axe throwing and Bronze Age technology.

Glamis Castle is delighted to welcome back The Three Inch Fools who will perform two of Shakespeare’s iconic plays: A Midsummer Night’s Dream on July 22nd and Hamlet on July 26th. Tickets available on the Glamis Castle website.

The Glamis Prom returns on August 25th with the theme: The Great British Songbook. The Scottish Pops Orchestra will be joined by big names including West End superstar Kerry Ellis, Tom Urie of BBC Proms in the Park and Saskia Eng, who first found fame on The Voice.

Canines at the Castle (formerly known as Dogs Day Out) will take place at Glamis Castle on Sunday, September 9th. For this event we are proud to be sponsored by Bella and Duke, a PAWSOME company that deliver completely natural dog food to your door. Be sure to keep an eye on our fantastic new website for updates on our Halloween and Christmas events!”

Glamis Castle, the ancestral home of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth and birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret is open daily from 10:00am – 5:30pm with the last castle tour leaving at 4:30pm.
