Take inspiration from the British monarchy and discover the exotic destinations they favour.

The British royal family know how to do holidays – and honeymoons in particular. Some even had more than one jaunt following their nuptials. Harry and Meghan are rumoured to be planning on travelling to the African country of Namibia. The couple have already holidayed together in Botswana. Namibia is part of the Commonwealth and is one of southern Africa’s best places to watch wildlife. It is also famed for its sand dunes in the Namib desert, some of which resemble mountains. Following their wedding in April 2012, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled to a remote island in the Seychelles. Spread across 650 miles of the Indian Ocean, the archipelago of 115 tropical islands offers beautiful beaches, dramatic scenery and a constantly warm climate.

The Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips and her husband Mike Tindall honeymooned in Cyprus in 2011 and Zara’s brother Peter Phillips and wife Autumn Kelly travelled to South Africa in 2008. When Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip wed in 1947 it was a time of post-war austerity and the couple chose to stay in Britain. First they travelled to Broadlands in Hampshire – the family home of the Mountbatten’s. Next they travelled to Birkhall in Scotland which was bought in 1715 by Prince Albert – consort to Queen Victoria – as part of the Balmoral estate.

The Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales also visited Broadlands, followed by Balmoral in 1981 followed by a cruise around the Mediterranean on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Other popular honeymoon destinations for the British monarchy over the years include the Azores, the West Indies and Barbados.
