Town anniversary to be marked
The Scottish Parliament will mark Glenrothes’s 70th birthday.
Town MSP Jenny Gilruth has organised a reception in the Parliament next month to mark the anniversary.
The SNP MSP has led a campaign to promote celebrations across Glenrothes for the occasion. A number of projects involve local schools and community groups.
Ms Gilruth has also launched a poetry competition entitled What Does Glenrothes Mean To Me.
The winning poem will be read out at the Parliament event, with the winner getting the chance to recite it.
The MSP said: “The town’s 70th birthday is an important milestone in the story of Glenrothes. Across the town community groups and schools have been working hard to mark the birthday.
“Hosting this event will allow for these groups and individuals to be recognised in the appropriate way, with a celebration in our national Parliament.”
The reception will include more than 100 guests and will involve musical entertainment from local schools, stories from Glenrothes residents as featured by the Scottish Book Trust’s digi-stories and the announcement of the winner of Jenny Gilruth’s poetry competition.
The reception is one of several events which will mark the town’s milestone anniversary.
