Charity appeals for befrienders

-

Fife Society for the Blind is looking for volunteers.

People with some spare time are being asked to help those living with sight loss by becoming a befriender.

It needs to recruit volunteers from across the kingdom who can provide companionship and support to people with sight loss to access community activities.

The organisation has a successful history of providing befriending services.

Community engagement coordinator Marie Lindsey said: “The role is to support people who experience sight loss to feel less lonely and isolated, helping to achieve increased independence, involvement and belonging in their community.

“We are calling on the people of Fife who can donate some of their time to help make a difference to someone locally today.”

Janette Brown, who already volunteers with the society, added: “Getting involved with Fife Society for the Blind’s befriending service has been better than I could ever have imagined.

“I have met some fantastic people and learned new skills while supporting people to lead the life that we often take for granted, such as going out to a café, travelling on a bus, going to the shops and so much more.

“I can thoroughly recommend becoming a volunteer with Fife Society for the Blind.”
