Greaves leads the way with double century

-

A record may have been broken for a comparatively early season Saturday with three matches producing totals over 450 runs and one of those a massive effort of 14 runs short of seven hundred.

The whopping total came at Forfar when Forfarshire 2nd set a huge target of 352-1 with Chris Greaves slamming an unbeaten double century and Callum Garden blasting 117.

Arbroath shouldn’t have stood a chance, but then Bryce Carnegie took a hand with 146 which, along with Greig Peel’s 72, Jack Plomer’s 57 and Ryan Cameron’s 46, combined to take them an agonising 18 runs short for the loss of four wickets.

Neither of the league leaders were under any real pressure with Stoneywood Dyce challenging Mannofield to get to 268 to win after Liam Lindsay’s century, backed up by Jack Mitchell’s 77, had put them in a strong position.

Mannofield were unable to get the necessary momentum into their batting and although Justin Haddon had 75 of their 199 total, S/D won comfortably by 68 runs.

At Scroggie Park, Falkland, co-leaders of the league, had Strathmore in all sorts of trouble early on and with Ben Strachan mopping up the tail to finish with 6-19, the visitors struggled to reach 101 which Falkland passed in under 20 overs with seven wickets in hand. Steven Meikle was still there at the end with an unbeaten 44.

No one really took charge in Dundee HSFP’s inning of 156 when they batted first at Victory Park. The top score of 28 came from extras!

That left Meigle a fairly straightforward job of overhauling the target with seven wickets in hand thanks to an unbeaten 72 from Raju Gayashan.

ASI Gordonians have made up for a poor start with two wins on the bounce, seeing off Dundee last week at Dalnacraig then Perth Doo’cot this week at Countesswells.

Batting first, Gordonians started shakily and at 25-2 were not where they wanted to be, but Aman Arora and Saraswat came together and when the third wicket fell, they had added 98 runs.

Set to catch 229, Perth put up no real challenge with only Rizwan Akbar’s 41 making a dent in the target so their league record now matches that of their opponents with two wins from five starts.
