Double celebration for Kirkcaldy community radio station

-

Kirkcaldy politicians Lesley Laird MP and Claire Baker MSP visited the studios of community radio station K107 FM to congratulate the team as it marks a double celebration.

K107FM has installed national news from the Sky News Network, which will allow presenters to link direct for live news updates every hour.

Ofcom has also approved the radio’s licence extension for a further five years when the current deal expires.

This means the station, which broadcasts from Kirkcaldy on 107FM, can now continue until March 30 2024.

Chairman John Murray said: “With more live shows added all the time we are delighted with the news and it’s all down to the commitment of our volunteer broadcasters.”

Mrs Laird, MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, passed on her congratulations to John and the team for reaching their milestone.

“Establishing K107 FM in 2014 was an inspired move and the team has done stellar work developing the station in just a few years,” she said.

“It’s great to see community radio grow from strength to strength in Kirkcaldy and I wish the station’s team all the best in the future.”

Mrs Baker, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, echoed those comments.

She added: “As Scottish Labour’s shadow cabinet secretary for culture, I know the significant role community radio plays in broadcasting and the opportunities they offer locals, who have a real passion for radio and music.

“Kirkcaldy has a rich history in broadcasting and music and K107FM can continue to contribute to that.

“I wish John and everyone at the station all the best in the future.”
