Green lights go on for Grenfell

-

Landmarks including 10 Downing Street are to be illuminated green tomorrow evening in memory of those who died at Grenfell Tower a year ago.

All government departments will observe the one-minute silence called for noon to commemorate the 72 deaths caused by the blaze in west London on June 14 2017.

Senior ministers were updated on official involvement in the anniversary commemorations at the regular weekly Cabinet meeting at Number 10.

Prime Minister Theresa May, who said on Monday that she would “always regret” not going to meet survivors more quickly, told ministers that this week “provides a moment of reflection for us all”.

She said the government will do “everything necessary to prevent a tragedy like this ever happening again”, her spokesman told reporters.

The government is supporting Friday’s Green For Grenfell Day initiative from the Grenfell United group.
