Police appeal after man killed on country road

TRAGEDY: Victim was walking on B925 when struck

Police have appealed for witnesses after a pedestrian was killed on a Fife country road.

The casualty, a young man who has not been named, was walking eastbound on the B925 Crossgates to Mossmorran road when he was involved in a collision with a Renault Trafic people carrier at around 11.45pm on Saturday.

It is understood the people carrier was a taxi carrying passengers. The driver and occupants were not injured.

Early indication­s are that the incident was a tragic accident.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident to get in touch with officers in Glenrothes on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 4806 of June 16.

The road was closed for around six hours as officers completed an examinatio­n of the crash site.

A young man was killed in a collision with a taxi on a Fife country road.

The youth, who has not been named, was involved in an accident involving a Renault Trafic people carrier while he was walking on the B925 road between Crossgates and Mossmorran on Saturday night.

It is understood police were in the process of contacting next of kin yesterday. Early indication­s are that the incident was a tragic accident.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.45pm but were unable to save the man, who is understood to have been walking eastbound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and occupants of the Renault were not injured.

Yesterday morning, police put out an appeal for informatio­n about the man’s identity.

Sergeant Fraser Cameron, of the Roads Policing Unit at Glenrothes, said: “At this time we have not been able to identify the young man killed in this tragic collision as he was carrying no form of identifica­tion with him.”

Officers later identified the casualty through their own inquiries.

Local sources said there was still a police presence around mid-morning yesterday, and officers appeared to be searching for something on the grass verge beside the road.

Yesterday morning, Crossgates residents were in the dark about what had happened. One resident said: “If it had been someone from Crossgates, we would have heard about it.”
