Fans of making a fool of themselves in wetsuits rejoice, Dundee is in line for the country’s first ever urban aqua park.

Eighteen floating obstacles, from water chutes and bridges to “ninja runs” will be installed at the Foxlake centre in Victoria dock at the City Quay.

Thrill-seekers will be able to take part in activity challenges similar to those screened on TV programmes such as It’s A Knockout and Total Wipeout.

The custom-made park will test users’ balance and agility as they attempt to make their way across the inflatable course without falling into the water.

The aqua park will be able to accommodate up to 24 participants at a time and will join other watersports on offer at Foxlake, including the popular wakeboarding line.

Foxlake moved to Dundee more than a year ago and was awarded a five-star tourist attraction rating by the country’s main travel board – VisitScotland – in May this year.

It also offers more relaxed waterbased activities such as paddle board yoga.

Callum Mark, director of Foxlake Adventures, said: “We are really looking forward to launching our new urban aqua park, featuring a mix of challenging obstacles and slides which are loads of fun for both kids and adults alike.

“It’s also really exciting to have one of the first aqua parks in the UK to be based in a city environment.

“We are confident our fun-filled floating playground will complement all of our other watersports, including wakeboarding and ringo rides and make for a great summer day out for the whole family.”

Wet-suits, helmets and buoyancy aids will be provided by the centre, with sessions initially lasting for one hour.

Since opening it is believed an estimated 2,000 people have visited the wakeboarding centre.

Centre managers say they have welcomed a mix of locals and visitors staying in surrounding hotels.

Booking details and more information are available on the Foxlake website.

The aqua park is due to open to the public on Saturday June 30.
