Thief locked up over crime spree
A Dunfermline drug addict has been jailed after he went on a crime spree.
Jason Mooney, 25, of Gilfillan Road, was locked up at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for a long list of offences that he had previously admitted.
On August 6 Mooney stole DVDs from Asda St Leonards; food from the Co-op in Shamrock Street on August 14; seven DVDs from Asda Halbeath on October 6; a bluetooth speaker from Asda St Leonards on November 9; and a quantity of DVDs and electrical items from Tesco on January 8.
On August 24, he broke into a house in Bridge Street and stole medication, an ornament, a quantity of musical instruments, a bow, a quantity of arrows, tools and money.
Depute fiscal Sarah Lumsden said a neighbour spotted that the housebreaking victim’s door had been forced.
The stolen musical instruments included cow-bells.
The court heard that later that day, police received information saying Mooney had been seen at the James Bank Hostel carrying a bow and arrows as well as a bag of coins, which he dropped on the floor.
Mooney also attempted a supermarket sweep-style raid at Tesco, by gathering goods worth £430 and trying to leave without paying.
His efforts at stealing were described as “amateurish” by his own solicitor.
Sheriff Charles MacNair jailed Mooney for 16 months and a further 160 days.
